Black Velvet Whiskey Review

Black Velvet Whiskey Review
Black Velvet Whiskey Review

The Black Velvet Whisky has one of the most exotic feelings and long-lasting taste at first drink.

It comes with a dark ripe fruit scent, amber color, and a sweet taste similar to butterscotch. You can feel a smooth and subtle flavor with a mix of tropical coconut, caramel, and warm vanilla notes at the first drink.

You may also notice the presence of rubber, but it will quickly turn into fruit notes like peaches, fruit juice, prune juice, cherry, and dark-dried fruits.

Black Velvet is a Whisky Brand located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada.

It has a long history of making whiskey available to Canadian submarine officers during WWII.

It gained immense popularity; lately, it is the second-best-seller whiskey producer in Canada.

After the first product, the brand was previously called Black Label. The name was later changed to Black Velvet in the late 1940s by Jack Napier.

Jack Napier, the company’s master distiller, was the key figure in the brand’s success of his perfection of the blend and distillations.

Black Velvet has an exceptionally smooth taste and a lot of market expression.

Black Velvet Review Collection

There are three bottles in the Black Velvet collection; Original Black Velvet Whisky, Black Velvet Reserve, and Black Velvet Toasted Caramel. All three are smooth whiskey with unique ingredients.

Collections are affordable, with a sweet taste, fruitiness, and a good deal of vanilla flavor.

Original Black Velvet Whiskey

The Original Black Velvet Whiskey has a unique sweet scent, smooth taste, and attractive amber color. This whiskey has been aged for three years with an alc./vol of at least 40% and a bottle size of 1 liter.

There is an element of a dark ripe fruit scent when you smell it. Soon it turns into hard candy, cotton candy, and marshmallows. We can also guess it contains rye and dry cereal grain, some floral notes, and dustiness.

The Original Black Velvet Whiskey offers oily and creamy sensations with a lush mouth feeling. We could taste vanilla, caramel, and coconut at the first drink.

Black Velvet Reserve

The Black Velvet Reserve aged for at least eight years to deliver warm flavors like wood, nuts, and chocolate. On tasting, you will feel the effect of wood, malt, and some roasted nuts. There is an element of subtle notes and aromas which is dry and pleasing.

The black Velvet Reserve is a mixing whiskey with unique ingredients that keep you feeling alive.

It also comes with corn base spirit alongside corn-flavoring whiskies, partly matured rye, and rye-high wines with a pinch of corn. It does not have a heavy smell and includes more whiskies flavoring, which offers a creamy, premium, and deep mouth feeling. The scent is unique, as you will notice the richness in the smell. The richness seems to be a mixture of prunes, kiwi, peaches, sweet rye spices, and sweet citrus.

The Black Velvet Reserve also smells oily on the nose and has a moderate spirit hint despite its hard rye dusty smell. Its heavy sweet notes include burnt sugar, butterscotch, caramel, and toffee, and the oaky notes are nicely integrated and made to settle in well.

Black Velvet Toasted Caramel

The Black Velvet Toasted Caramel has plenty of intensity that warms your reflexes. A feel of this beauty will remind you of warm caramel, buttery, toasted oak, and toffee. This beautiful whiskey tastes like a mixture of caramel, English toffee, and woody flavors. But the best taste description is unique toffee sweetness, a nice blend of maple syrup, a dash of citrus, and a rousing warm pepper taste.

The previously-masked peppery rye spices will be apparent and felt when it moves down your throat. At first drink, it offers a creamy and smooth texture. It also delivers a whiskey-like aftertaste with a bit of charm and heat.

The Black Velvet Toasted Caramel will be enjoyed when it is paired with some snacks.

Red Hot Cake Batter

  • part Butterscotch schnapps
  • 1 part Black Velvet Cinnamon Rush
  • 1 part Black Velvet Toasted Caramel
  • 2 part half & half or milk
  • Maraschino cherry or a small chunk of cake

You can combine the ingredients over ice and put them into a glass. You can serve it chilled.

Try garnishing the Red Hot Cake Batter with a cherry and a small chunk of cake.

If you’re on a vegan diet, you can substitute the milk with almond milk.
